FAQs

What is CBT and how does it work?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based form of talking therapy that focuses on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It helps you recognise unhelpful patterns, understand how they may be affecting you, and develop practical strategies to respond differently. The aim is to build useful skills that you can apply both during therapy and in everyday life.
Will CBT be the right treatment for my difficulty?
CBT is recommended for many common difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, OCD, PTSD and panic. In a free 15-minute consultation call we can talk about what you are going through and whether CBT with me is the right fit. If it isn’t, I will do my best to point you towards support that is.
Does online CBT work as well as face-to-face therapy?
For many people, yes. Research suggests online CBT can be as effective as meeting in person for a range of difficulties. Many people also find it easier to fit into their week and more comfortable to start from home.
How do online CBT sessions work?
Sessions take place by video call and last 55 minutes. You will need a quiet, private space and a phone, tablet or computer with a reliable internet connection. Before your first session I will send you a link and everything you need to join.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance to get to know each other. We will talk about what has brought you to therapy, how things are affecting you day to day, and what you would like to change. Together we will agree goals and a plan for our work.
How long will I need therapy for?
It depends on you and what you would like to work on. CBT is usually a time-limited therapy, and we will review progress together regularly so that the number of sessions fits your needs.
Is online therapy safe and confidential?
Yes. Sessions take place on a secure video platform and what you share stays confidential, in line with the BABCP standards I work to. The only exception is if there is a serious risk to your safety or someone else’s; I will explain this fully before we start.
Do I need to be good with technology?
Not at all. If you can make a video call, you can join a session. I will send clear instructions beforehand and we can test the connection together at the start.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults aged 18 and over.
What languages are sessions available in?
Sessions are available in English, Sylheti Bengali, and Urdu.
Are in-person sessions available?
Sessions are currently online, with in-person sessions in Tower Hamlets coming soon.
